State governments are scurrying to spirit their citizens out of Jos! And nobody; no institution, is asking them not to! This depicts a state of anomie; in which public trust in the ability of the relevant institutions to protect has virtually collapsed! It’s indeed a bad and ominous point, for a nation to be.
And then, NDA happened!
The FGN, with overall mandate on national security, must strive harder, and creatively too, to restore confidence. It must come up with the courage requisite for resetting this obviously limited governance structure, and tackling these myriads of national embarrassment from the roots.
Federalism came to be in Belgium in the 19th century. It is still being recalibrated for greater functionality. It is the same with every nation. Reforms are needful steps to make nations survive and grow. Nigeria cannot afford to be too ossified. It cannot hope to shut out fundamental structural reforms forever.
Regrettably, time is running out! It surely, is!
