Emir of Gusau tasks community leaders on peace process
The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello has tasked community leaders in the state to support the ongoing peace process initiated by the state government.
The Emir stated this on Saturday when he received the newly deployed Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Abutu Yaro, who paid him a familiarisation visit at his palace.
He noted that there was the need for Fulani in the state, in particular, to maximise their participation in the ongoing peace process, as initiated by Gov. Bello Matawalle.
“I am calling on Fulani and other community leaders to extend the peace process messages to their people,” the Emir said.
He also commended the police commissioner for assisting in the implementation of the peace initiative.
“I am happy that we have many Fulani-speaking police officers, I hope they will help us too in this regard.
“We are happy with your initiatives, we are going to support you to succeed in your ongoing efforts to provide lasting peace in the state,” he added.
Speaking earlier, CP Abutu Yaro said the visit was part of his familiarisation tour to traditional rulers and other major security stakeholders in the state.
“The essence of our coming to the palace is to meet with security stakeholders in this emirate, especially traditional rulers..
“We are determined to ensure effective security transformation in the state and we acknowledge the effort of this emirate in the fight against insecurity,” Yaro said.
He cautioned the residents against backing the outlawed Yansakai local vigilantes, stressing that the group had been banned by the government.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry for Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Musa Liman commended the emirate for the prompt report of insecurity incidences to government and security agencies.
He, however, cautioned against attacking and harassing Fulani herdsmen in their domains. He lamented the increased activities of informants in the communities, describing it as unfortunate.
The Sole Administrator of Gusau Local Government Area, Alhaji Sanusi Sarki, assured continued support to combat insecurity.
NAN reports that the CP also visited 42 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Gusau, where he commended personnel on duties for doing a good job.
