A Renowned Scholar, Prof. Foluke Osunyikanmi, to Deliver AAUA’s 29th Inaugural Lecture
A distinguished figure in Political Science, Professor Adebukola Foluke Osunyikanmi is set to deliver the 29th Inaugural Lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. The lecture, titled, “Democracy and Gender Inclusion: Synthesising Political Phenomena for Good Governance”, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin.), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, will chair the event. The lecture will take place at the University Multipurpose Hall, commencing at 2:00 pm, with guests urged to be seated by 1:30 pm.
Prof. Adebukola Osunyikanmi’s academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science degree from former Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti in 1993, followed by a Master’s degree from University of Ibadan in1997, then another Master’s degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, in 2006 and 2010, respectively.
Joining the University on 10th of January, 2001, as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Osunyikanmi ascended through the ranks, achieving the revered position of professor in 2019.
Prof. Osunyikanmi has served the University at one time or another in over 20 capacities, including Head of Department, Director of Women Studies and Development Centre, Member of the University 5th Anniversary Ceremonial Organizing Committee, and Initiator/Editor of Journal of African Women and Gender Studies. She has attended several local and international conferences globally, including the United States of America and the United Arab Emirate.
Prof. Osunyikanmi’s prolific academic career is marked by authoring of three books and co-authoring of two, and over 30 articles in learned journals and newspapers. She is a member/fellow of a number of professional bodies, including Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Mid – South Sociological Association, USA; Gender Studies Association of Nigeria; National Political Science Association, Nigeria; and Institute of Policy Management and Leadership Development (IPMLD).
