Police detain girlfriends of abducted Chinese expatriates in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has detained two women, identified as Ogungbesan Joy and Joseph Naomi, following the alleged abduction of two Chinese expatriates, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, in the Kémta/Abule-Owu area along the Onigbedu Road in the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Joy and Naomi were the girlfriends of the abducted expatriates, and the victims were on their way to visit them when they were abducted by suspected kidnappers at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday after leaving the company.
A police source, who was not authorised to speak on behalf of the command, had informed our correspondent that Wenguang and Ding were associated with the Good One Carton Company in the area.
The cop said, “Wenguang and Ding left the company on their own, without notifying security, including the police and military assigned to the company, nor did they inform the company itself.
“They mentioned to a few people that they were heading to Kémta Village, about a kilometre from the company, to visit some friends.”
The spokesperson for the state command, Omolola Odutola, also confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday, stating that the kidnappers had contacted the company to demand a ransom for their release.
She said, “The company’s security supervisor reported that one of the expatriates called to inform him that Wenguang and Ding had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding money in exchange for their release.
“Our operatives in the Ewekoro Division, with the assistance of local vigilantes, military personnel from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps, hunters, and other security groups, thoroughly searched the entire Kémta Village forest for the duo but were unable to find them.”
When contacted for a follow-up on the incident, Odutola stated that the two women had already been invited for questioning and that efforts to secure the release of the duo were underway.
“The women have been invited to the station to assist with the investigation. Rescue operations to free the victims and apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing,” Odutola said.
