The Ogun State Police Command has begun a probe into the death of a man, Taiwo Akinsola, and has also arrested a suspected robber, in separate areas of the state.

Akinsola was confirmed dead a few hours after he was found on the floor vomiting foam in the backyard of his house on Thursday around 4 a.m. at the Ondo Road, Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State.

A police source, who was privy to the incident but was not permitted to speak to the media, told our correspondent on Sunday that the deceased’s girlfriend, Temitope Taiwo, who had been living with him for three years, noted that she could not find her lover beside her on the bed that morning, so she searched for him and went to the spot where he smoked and found him lying dead.

It was said that Taiwo revealed that the food (bread and beans) they ate for dinner on Thursday was bought from a food seller at the roadside. She also said she did not know any of his family members and had no information about them.

When the operatives of the police got to the venue, they found him naked, and there was no sign of an attack on his body. He was later taken to the State Hospital at Ijebu-Ode, where he was declared dead by a doctor.

When PUNCH Metro contacted the spokesperson for the state command, Omolola Odutola, she said a preliminary investigation was in progress as an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of the death. She said efforts to reach the family members of the deceased were in top gear.

“On the receipt of the complaint, detectives led by the DCO 1 visited the scene, and his body was found naked without marks of violence. Photographs were taken, and the body was afterwards removed to the State General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor, and the corpse was deposited in the same hospital’s mortuary for autopsy for the cause of death to be ascertained,” Odutola said.
