Oyo varsity lecturer dies after surgery at UCH
The Dean of the Faculty of Specialised and Professional Education, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo State, Professor Adebowale Ojo, is dead.
He died on Tuesday, after a successful surgery at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, the state capital.
A statement by the Registrar of the institution, Olubunmi Siju’ Asunmo, made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday, said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, received the news of the late Professor Ojo, on Tuesday.
Asunmo said, “The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olaniyan, had received with great shock the news of the demise of Professor Ojo, which sadly occurred, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, after a successful surgery at the UCH.
“Ojo, who was on sabbatical at the university, was until his death the Dean, Faculty of Specialised and Professional Education. He was a staff of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
“He was a Professor of Education Evaluation and two-term Provost of the Tai Solarin College of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. He was the Chairman of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State.Related News
“Ojo, who obtained undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of Education from the University of Ilorin; the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan, respectively, served as a member of the Governing Council, Tai Solarin University of Education. He was also a member of the Governing Board of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria.”
According to the statement, he joined the service of the Ogun State College of Education, Ijagun on August 26, 1980, and rose to the position of Chief Lecturer.
Upon the transition of the College to a University, he was appointed a Senior Lecturer and was pronounced a Professor on October 1, 2019.
He was graciously offered a sabbatical leave by the management of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo and resumed as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Specialised and Professional Education on September 26, 2023, a position he held until his demise.
The vice chancellor, therefore, prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and the fortitude to bear the huge loss by the family.
